How Can We Help?
All double swinging traffic doors have gravity hinges that work off the same principle. The actual weight of the double swinging door is what dictates the aggressiveness of the hinge. If you have lightweight sheet doors or narrow panel doors, friction or drag can greatly reduce swinging performance. Some common causes for a double swinging door to have closure problems are described below.
Make sure there is an air gap between the door and the bottom hinge plate. All the weight of the door must hang by the top gravity hinge for the door to perform properly.
When in the closed or home position, make sure the top hinge rollers are setting all the way into the V-cam plate (check both sides). To reduce friction, you can apply (1) drop of oil to the pin where it meets the rollers. As you open the door the rollers should turn, not slide (Check for roller flat spots). The rollers and pin assembly can be replaced if it is not in good operating condition. To center the door properly, loosen the two bolts, center the door, then re-tighten.
Narrow panel sheet doors are sometimes affected by the wind or negative pressure. Adding additional weight to the door panel can sometimes be a remedy. Create another location for make-up air to enter the room (register or window).
