FAQ
How would you describe what a sheet door is?
A sheet door is an economical way of making a door using a single sheet of metal (Aluminum or stainless steel). This type of door is light weight and ideal for fast moving traffic in confined areas such as smaller restaurants, bakery or a gas station. The door does start to become a little flimsier the wider it is manufactured. For this reason, it is recommended to use (2) panels in larger size openings.
What type of sheet doors do you offer?
We offer Double swinging sheet doors constructed from aluminum, aluminum with laminate facings, or full stainless steel.
What Is the advantage of a sheet door?
They are lightweight and ideal when you have heavy traffic in a confined area and they cost less than a conventional double swinging wood core door
What is the disadvantage of a sheet door?
They drift open easier with negative or positive air pressure They are more susceptible to damage in an abusive environment. The wider the door is manufactured the more flimsiness it will have. Sheet doors are not capable of having a door seal or lock
What is the difference between an aluminum sheet door and a wood core door?
The sheet door is light weight so if you are in a more confined area you do not have the weight of the heavier door. The wood core door is going to be less affected from wind or negative air pressure and will hold up better in a more abusive environment.

What’s the largest double swinging restaurant door you offer?
For a single panel double swing restaurant door we can offer panels up to a 48” x 96” finished opening size. For double panel restaurant doors, we can offer up to 96” x 96” finished opening size.
Can you provide a swinging door that can be locked, possibly with a dead bolt type lock?
Yes, wood core doors can utilize a keyed bold type lock or, header locks. Unfortunately, we do not offer any locks for sheet doors.
Do you have freezer door replacement options?
Yes, we can offer a walk-through freezer door, or walk-through cooler door as a replacement
Which is the least expensive double swinging kitchen door you offer?
The PE-510ALC aluminum sheet door is our least expensive door option
What are the disadvantages of a wood core door?
It is not a good fit for any high moisture or washdown environments.
What measurements do you need to quote a sliding cooler door or sliding freezer door?
Just provide your clear opening width and height for a preliminary price. More exact measurements can be provided when making a purchase.
Are double swing doors fire rated?
Unfortunately, nobody offers a fire-rated double swinging restaurant kitchen door. Fire rated doors are typically heavy, spring-loaded to close and can only swing in one direction. (Making it very clumsy and dangerous for fast moving foot and cart traffic) We do offer some mental doors that are fire resistant but are not fire rated.
FYI Note: We once ran into a fire Marshall that insisted on a fire rated double action door (which does not exist) for a non-rated fire wall (which makes no sense). The contractor finally got him to sign off on it by putting a sprinkler head on both sides of the door. If they truly have a fire wall, and want a fire door, a double swinging impact door is not the answer. Another option would be to add an overhead roll down fire door working in conjunction with the double swing doors.
Frame Questions
What are the advantages of our 3-piece frames?
They can be installed in a wall that is already constructed. They are already prepped for hinges allowing for easy door installation. They wrap the wall to alleviate any trim work needed.
Do I need a 3-piece steel frame?
If you are replacing an existing door, and you have a wood or steel frame in place, in most cases this can be reused. If your frame is in poor condition or if this is new construction, then you may want to consider purchasing a new frame.
I’m removing a heavy wood door but want to keep my frame. Do I have to purchase a metal frame to work with your double swinging door?
No, if your frame is in good shape it can more than likely be reused. Our double swinging door hinges will fit centered into your frame. If the frame has a doorstop and it cannot be removed, you will have to straddle the stop with our hinge. Please consult your Paylon sales rep.
Can you make a double swinging restaurant door attach to a drywall without a frame?
No, it is not recommended to put our hinge directly on drywall, there are some ways around this. Please consult with your Paylon sales rep.
